JRF is a white collar job that includes research under the supervision of experienced faculty/ professor/ head of department/ Dean (for SRF). This will land you in an Indian university/ Institute/ laboratory as research fellow/associate with good stipend.

Who is JRF?

JRF is research fellow who assist on various projects or doctoral studies. He/ She works under the expert guidance of faculty members/scientists.

What are the Job responsibilities of Junior research Fellowship?

1. A research fellow have to work on research project either as an independent investigator or under the supervision of a principal investigator.
2. Produce high quality reports, academic papers and journal articles of a publishable standard based on the analysis of data and literature with a clear and engaging writing style.  
3. Contribute to teaching and learning programme in the College.
4. Conduct individual or collaborative research projects.

Who can apply for JRF?

Nationality criteria:
Only Indian citizens, residing in India are eligible for the award of research Fellowship/Associate-ships.

Educational qualifications:
Post graduate with at least 55% aggregate marks in Masters Degree from recognized Indian university.
Candidates holding 4 years Bachelor of science program/BE/B. Tech/B. Pharma/MBBS/ Integrated BS-MS/M.Sc. or Equivalent degree/B.Sc (Hons) or equivalent degree. (For CSIR)

What is the age limit for JRF?

Age Criteria: 
Upper age limit is 28 years for unreserved category applicants. For ST/SC/Reserved category candidates relaxation upto 5 years is permissible.

How to apply for JRF/SRF? 

For JRF you need to appear in UGC NET JRF Exam which is conducted twice a year for 93 subjects or for science stream & engineering science you need to apply through CSIR NET exam.

 For SRF you need to complete 3 year tenure.

 

What are the organizations that conduct entrance exam for Junior research fellowship?

Following institutes conduct entrance exams:

1. UGC - University Grant commission (now CBSE conducts this exam)

2. CSIR- council of science & industrial research

What is the future aspect of fellowship?

 After completing 3 year tenure as JRF you will be considered for senior research fellowship based on your performance & interview conducted by committee. You will receive stipend for next 3 years.

How long tenure I will have to serve as JRF?

You need to serve 3 years for successful completion of JRF tenure.

What will be my Salary/ Stipend as JRF? 

Stipend provided for junior research fellowship is 16000 rs. per month for UGC NET JRF & 25000 for CSIR NET JRF.

contingent grant:
annual contingent grant of Rs. 20,000/- per fellow will be provided to the University / Institution to NET JRF.

Can I apply for another job during my fellowship?

You need to inform your guide in advance one month & resign from the JRF position in order to join another Job. You will have to inform your guide for appearing in competition exam.

To whom will I report as a JRF?

You will be under experienced faculty/ scientist serving in universities/institutes as a research associate. Your guide will help you throughout your tenure in research.

How To Prepare For JRF NET Exam Without Coaching?

We strongly recommend self study as the best aid for preparation. But if you want to join coaching for CBSE UGC NET JRF exam then you can opt for online coaching or classroom coaching in your city.
There is a Intensive coaching program by Centre for Career Development Studies (CCDS) for JRF NET. It is a short term coaching. Classes began fron 20 April.
